EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2023

WHAT TO KNOW:

ALL freestanding chests and dressers with three or more drawers will receive the following updates:

  1. Drawer Interlock System will be added which allows only one drawer to be open at a time.

  2. Counterweight ballast material will be added to the interior case back as needed.

  3. Case depths will increase about 1" to accommodate counterweights.

  4. Drawer boxes will be slightly resized and will now feature dovetail joints in both the front and back of the box.

NEW LABELING REQUIREMENTS

The CPSC rule includes three separate labeling requirements which Copeland will include:

 

  1. Warning Label that is similar to the labels we currently apply to top-drawer interiors. 

  2. Identification Labels will be applied to the case back to include the name and address of the manufacturer, the model number, the date of manufacturing, and states that the case complies with the rule. 

  3. Hang Tags that are consumer-facing and provide safety-related performance and technical data. It will include a Stability Rating that's calculated during testing.

This rule requires that all labels must be visible and/or accessible to customers even on the floor sample products. Hang tags cannot be placed on old floor models that are not compliant.
